Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
